New work crowds out old work
The mushaf does not store itself. Each new page needs a place in your week. If every sitting is new, yesterday has no home. Balancing new and old is the fix.
Un-tested ayahs feel memorised until they are not
Reading along is comforting. Cover the page. What you cannot start is not yet carried. Testing makes forgetting visible while it is still cheap to repair.
Similar ayahs steal endings
Sometimes you did not “forget”; you took the wrong fork. Pair the lookalikes. Mutashabihat belongs in your return cycle.
Return on a shorter cycle, then widen it
Bring the weak page close for a few days, then ease it back. Revision and repetition are the same idea at two distances.
