Mutashabihat: How to Memorise Similar Qur'an Ayahs
Lookalike ayahs are not a sign you are failing. They are a sign you have enough Hifz for the mushaf to echo itself. Treat them as pairs, not as mysteries.

Name the difference out loud
When two ayahs share an opening, say the distinctive word before you continue. Context — which surah, which story, which command — is part of the memorisation, not extra trivia.
Revise the pair on the same day
If you only revise one of the twins, the other will steal its ending. Put both in the same sitting once a week. Revision for retention should include these pairs as first-class work.
Test the junction, not only the start
Start from the shared phrase and force yourself to take the correct fork. Honest testing shows whether the pair is actually distinct yet.
Use comparison, then return to the page
A notebook line that says “this ayah mentions X, that one mentions Y” is enough. Then recite each ayah in its place. Techniques around smaller chunks still apply — see memorisation techniques.
